Each fuel holds a known amount of heat per unit: a kilogram of LPG, a litre of diesel, an MMBTU of gas, a tonne of coal. Not all of it reaches your process, so each is multiplied by a typical efficiency for the equipment that burns it.
Dividing the price by the useful heat gives the cost of one million kcal from each fuel. That is the fair way to compare fuels sold in different units.

What people ask.
Is coal cheaper than gas in Pakistan?
For industrial heat it often is, especially against RLNG, which has been short and expensive in 2026. Gas tariffs differ by connection, so put in the price on your own bill to see the real comparison.
Is coal cheaper than LPG?
Usually by a wide margin. LPG is convenient but one of the most expensive fuels per unit of heat, so factories heating with LPG often gain the most from switching.
What does switching from gas to coal involve?
A boiler or furnace built for solid fuel, coal storage under cover, and ash handling. The fuel saving has to cover that investment, which is why the monthly figure matters.
What is an MMBTU in kcal?
One MMBTU (million British thermal units) is about 252,000 kcal, or 1.055 GJ.
