How it worksThe sum, in plain words

No black box.

Trucks are charged per trip, so the count comes first: tonnes divided by what each truck carries, rounded up. A 22-wheeler typically carries 40 to 50 tonnes, a 10-wheeler 25 to 30.

Freight per tonne is the freight per truck times the number of trucks, divided by the tonnes. Add the coal price ex-Quetta and you have the landed cost at your site.

What people ask.

How many tonnes does a coal truck carry?

A 22-wheeler typically carries 40 to 50 tonnes of coal and a 10-wheeler 25 to 30 tonnes, within axle load limits.

What is the freight for coal from Quetta to Punjab?

It moves with the diesel price and the season. On our current rate card, the difference between ex-Quetta and delivered Punjab is about Rs 9,000 a tonne.

Is it cheaper to buy ex-Quetta or delivered?

Ex-Quetta can be cheaper if you have a good regular transporter or a truck coming back empty from Quetta. Delivered is simpler: one price, and you pay on the weight at your gate.
